Using the software to select indicators and onsite impacts

As you click on and select your indicators they will appear on the main screen as in Figure 6. You should aim for a set of no more than ten indicators.

Now you need to insert your organisation’s data. The values you insert should only relate to your on-site impacts. For example,

  • on-site gross operating surplus are the profits (in $) made by your company
  • on-site employment is the number of your full-time equivalent (fte) employees, but not the people working for your contractors
  • on-site family income (in $) is the money you pay your employees in wages, salaries and on-cost
  • on-site material flow covers the materials (in tonnes, m3, etc) your organisation creates, that it either digs out of the ground, grows from the earth, etc
  • on-site energy use (in Petajoules, or alternatively coal etc in kilogrammes, petrol etc in litres, or gas in cubic metres) is the fuel you use in company cars, coal in boilers, town gas in appliances, etc
  • on-site emissions are emissions (in tonnes) that originate from your premises, for example CO2 from burning petrol in cars, coal in boilers, or town gas in appliances, or from methane emanating from organic waste, water treatment plants, or animals
  • on-site water use is the water (in Megalitres) you either use from the tap, or the water you extract from rivers, lakes, etc
  • on-site land use is the area (in hectares) that your premises or assets occupy. You can classify this land area under different types.

For example, the organisation below (Table 5) has inserted 26.7 against employment (i.e. 26.7 full time equivalent employees for the financial year of the reporting period), and $237,151 under gross operating surplus.
