Classification of data

Because the ISA calculations deal only with National Accounts categories your expenditure categories (e.g. rye flour) have to be converted into Australian National Accounts categories (e.g. flour mill products). This is one of the great strengths of the methodology. It uses freely available National Accounts data to provide benchmarks for 344 sectors of the national economy. As you will see when you begin using the software these benchmarks are fixed points against which your company is then measured.

The publication Australian National Accounts: Input-Output Tables (Product Details) ABS 5215.0 can act as a guide to how input-output categories are defined. It can be downloaded from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website.
